A while back I found myself in need of conditioner, and I have set a goal for myself to try to make, rather than buy things like this, I hit the internet in search of a way to keep my hair soft, and tangle free. This of course, took on a whole trial-and-error process that you get to skip because I settled on a recipe that seems to work for my hair.
the original recipe that I started with is located at Oh, The Things We’ll Make! I decided to reduce, and change it up a bit. Mainly because of the stuff I had on hand at the time, and it worked, so I kept going with this recipe. I have thick, wavy, long hair that is very picky about conditioners.
- 100 ML Water
- 2 1/2 tsp Glycerin
- 50 ML of Aloe Juice Or Witch Hazel
- 2 1/2 tsp BTMS-50
- 2 1/2 tsp Grapeseed Oil
- 1 tsp Sweet Almond Oil
- 1 tsp Shea Butter
- 1 tsp Vitamin E
- 1 1/4 tsp Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed
- 1/4 tsp Provitamin B5 (d-panthenol)
- 1/2 tsp Essential Oil of your choice
The water and oils must be heated separately, but kept at the same temperature when mixing, this is why the double boiler method is helpful.
In the top pan, combine oil mixture.
- Grapeseed Oil
- Shea Butter
- Sweet Almond Oil
- Mix until clear
Fill up your bottom pan with the water mixture.
- Add water to the measuring cup till you reach the 100 mark.
- Add 2 1/2 teaspoons of glycerin to the cup.
- Pour in Aloe Juice or Witch Hazel till the cup is filled to 150 ml
Once the oil mixture is clear, you may mix the liquids together stirring frequently for about 2 minutes. You may rest and stir periodically as it cools. . Then add the Wheat Protein, Provitamin B5, Vitamin E, and the Essential Oils
